MUSKOGEE -- The mother and stepfather of a girl found beheaded four years ago in Kansas City, Missouri, will return to Kansas City Tuesday to face murder charges.
Harrell and Michelle Johnson of Muskogee are each charged with second-degree murder in the death of Erica Green, whose remains were unidentified from the time her body was found in April 2001 until last Thursday. The girl was known only as Precious Doe.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp says Jackson County, Missouri, deputies will take the Johnson's from the Muskogee County Jail Tuesday and drive them to Missouri.
The Johnson's were arrested last week in Muskogee after a tip from a man who told Kansas City police he knew the girl's identity, her mother and her killer.
Police now say Harrell Johnson admitted he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and became angry with Erica when she refused to go to bed. Investigators say Johnson told them he grabbed the girl, kicked her and threw her to the ground where she lay unconscious until she died. He then used hedge clippers to sever the girl's head.
