Carol Bockmuller had wanted to learn how to weld for as long as she could remember. It just looked like fun.

Finally she found someone to teach her, and as New on 6 reporter Rick Wells show us, now she's welding art projects with the best of them.

Carol Bockmuller is working on an art project. "I'm making a sailboat." She says for years she's toyed with the idea of learning to weld, but until she found the Irondezignz Welding Academy and Art Studio at 3306 West Charles Page Boulevard, she didn't know how. "I think I like it." David Smith runs Irondezignz, he says he's taught about 30 students to weld since last fall, almost all of them women. "I think it's the fact they can say, I made that."

Carol's sailboat will be an auction item in a charity fundraiser up at Grand Lake. She made a lawn ornament last week. â€œShe's for the regatta too she's holding a sailboat." When she's not welding, Carol is a hair dresser. She says when she told her husband she was going to learn to weld, he just rolled his eyes, and her friends she says were not surprised. "My friends are used to me being a little out there, so it's ok."

She's created holiday gifts for those friends since she started and is here in the shop one or two days a week working on something. Many of these projects were made by students; the project of choice right now seems to be a bed.

Bockmuller has found a creative outlet she loves. "You know it's a million times more fun than crocheting."
