OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A resolution calling for a statewide vote on providing constitutional protection for hunting and fishing activities is adopted unanimously in the Oklahoma House.
The resolution now returns to the state Senate for consideration of a House amendment that removes circuses and rodeos from the proposed protection.
The state Senate measure states that all Oklahoma citizens shall have a right to hunt, trap and fish without laws or regulations that impede that right.
It was introduced by Senator Jeff Rabon of Hugo and sponsored in the state House by Representative Fred Morgan of Oklahoma City.
Morgan said extremist animal rights groups have waged campaigns in other states to ban common hunting and fishing activities.
