Last year, home was under a bridge for Stacy and Tracy. They had a few belongings and were staying in a tent when a fire wiped them out.
Stacy and Tracy: "everything...everything in and around our tent. everything we had collected."
The fire also landed both of them in the hospital, Stacy for three weeks, Tracy for almost two months.
Tracy: "But being homeless its also stressful...what's gonna happen I dont have an income I don't know how to pay for bills. when I get outta here whats gonna happen from that point on."
It’s taken some time, but the couple is on the road to recovery. And now the Day Center for the Homeless is helping them find a place of their own.
Stacy: "some things just take time and that’s what it is a long drawn out waiting game."
More than 200 people left the day center for a place of their own last year. Many left with nothing.
Leslie Shelton, Tulsa County Bar Association: "we have so much to be grateful for as attorneys and citizens of this country and we have more than enough. So its always nice to do something for someone who hasn't been quite as fortunate."
Some local lawyers are gathering everything you would need for a new home, from cleaning supplies to bed sheets.
Sheila Bradley, Tulsa County Bar Assn: "this should be a good feeling for them to get and for us to give."
For folks like Stacy and Tracy who've lost everything, one of these packages could make all the difference.
Stacy and Tracy: "Alot...everytime is like starting over...you know pots pans, can opener. you can have all this great canned food and no way to open it."
Thanks to some local lawyers... they will have the tools they need to make a fresh start.
