It's been almost three months since wildfires burned nearly 20 square miles in Mayes County, damaging 19 homes. But the scorched county is making a comeback.

A firestorm swept through Mayes County right after Thanksgiving, damaging 19 homes.
Many folks like The LeFan's lost everything. Three cars and two new tractors and 35 years worth of memories all destroyed.

Saturday, the News on 6 was the only station there when members of the Chouteau community gathered to give the family a big surprise.

“One behalf of Southern Hills Baptist Church the ministerial alliance of Chouteau and the green country community right here are the house plans for your new home.

It was an incredible moment for the LeFans and all of the volunteers.
