OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Governor Henry wants to use an extra $75-million the state is expected to have next year for education and to speed up his plan to raise teacher pay.

Henry said today that by using the money it will move the state closer to the goal of having teacher salaries at or near the regional average.

Oklahoma average teacher salary last year was just more than $37,000 a year. The average is last in a seven state region and about $2,900 a year below the regional average of just more than $40,000.
