A Tulsa Police officer shoots and kills a woman who police say was threatening the officer with knives.
Police say officers were called to an apartment complex at 917 North Yale because they say a woman with knives was wandering around. Three officers responded and police say the woman came toward them. They say 49 year-old Shirley Hedrick had a knife in each hand and refused to put them down. That's when police say the suspect charged a female officer and that officer opened fire.
Tulsa Police officer Scott Walton: "the female officer was backed into a corner there by the wrought iron fenced gate, was backed into that corner no area of retreat and fired multiple shots at the suspect."
The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. Officers aren't sure why she had the knives or what she was doing at the complex.
As for the officer, her actions will be reviewed according to Tulsa Police, and the department will determine whether the shooting was justified.
