Investigators suspect arson may be the cause of a major fire in the small Creek County town of Shamrock, that burned late into the night.
It started around 1:30 PM Tuesday. High winds scattered burning embers, sparking fires on several buildings. The worst was at an old abandoned schoolhouse. Attacks from the air made the job on the ground a bit easier.
It took crews about three hours to bring the fire under control. Two buildings were destroyed and three others were damaged.
Shamrock fire crews were already exhausted from fighting a fire the day before that burned 10,000 acres.
Dry, windy weather fueled even more wildfires in Payne County. One such fire was located between Agra and Perkins.
Most wildfires in Oklahoma are now under control. Since November 1st, wildfires have burned more than 300,031 acres in 30 counties. At least 220-homes and businesses have burned. Damage is estimated at $10-million.
