Oklahoma's burn ban is impacting Oklahomaâ€™s New Year's Eve celebrations.

Governor Brad Henry's office issued an order Thursday morning, which says setting off fireworks is now illegal under the state's burn ban. Originally, the ban didn't specifically mention fireworks, but the state Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry said they were always an understood part of the burn ban.

The governor's order now specifies that 'lighting fireworks' is illegal under the statewide burn ban.

A firefighter and a child were injured in one of this week's Oklahoma City fires, which investigators believe started with fireworks.

Right now it's still legal to buy them in some parts of the state, but if you are caught setting off fireworks, you could face a $500 fine and up to a year in jail.

The only exception is for communities with professional planned displays who have received approval through their local fire departments.
