First case of influenza confirmed in Oklahoma

Oklahoma's first confirmed case of the flu this winter is in Wagoner County. Doctors in Tulsa tell us they're seeing lots of people with the symptoms.

News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says the state health department has tested more than 100 people from Tulsa who had the symptoms. So far none of those tested positive for flu, but it's only a matter of time before someone here gets it.

Doctorâ€™s offices are seeing lots of people who are feeling achy, with fevers, and all the other symptoms. Even though the flu season has started, it's not too late to get a flu shot. It will still work.

Melanie Christian with the Tulsa City County Health Department: "We see cases from October to May, but generally the peak is sometime from January to late February."

It takes a couple of weeks for the flu shot to reach full strength in a person.

As for where to get the shot - the health department is out - but private physicians and nursing services still have a supply.
