A tragic accident casts a shadow over Bixby High School’s homecoming celebration. 34-year-old Kendra Jo Sefcik was riding on a float with some 2nd graders in Bixby's homecoming parade Thursday night. Then, in the middle of the route, she somehow ended up crushed beneath the trailer. She later died at the hospital.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says Bixby Police don't know if Sefcik lost her balance and fell off the float, or if she was diving to save one of the second graders who might have been tumbling over the edge. Of course, the streets were lined with spectators and police are trying to find anyone who might have video of just what happened.

Bixby Police Chief Anthony Stephens: "But just community wide, everyone's just kinda in shock. We've never had anything like this happen.”

Many people saw what happened, including quite a few students. Parents tell the News on 6, Kendra Jo Sefcik had a second grader and an eighth grader in Bixby schools. Bixby's school superintendent says there are many students who knew the Sefciks well, and are having a hard time coping.

Crisis counselors were on hand at three Bixby Schools on Friday to talk with any students who needed them.
