Many folks are looking for ways to save at the pump. We've all heard that making sure your tires are properly inflated can help, but now there's a new way to keep your tire pressure consistant, longer.
New on 6 anchor Terry Hood says mechanics say filling your tires with nitrogen can save you a lot of money. And it doesn't just save you at the pump; nitrogen can save the wear on your tires too. Race cars, airplanes and even Tour de France bicycles are already using this technology for a safer ride.
Nitrogen reduces the wear on tires; makes them less likely to blow out and it can improve gas mileage. Hesselbein Tires near 93rd and Memorial is now offering nitrogen to Tulsa consumers at $5 per tire.
Ed Weston says his shop has been advertising the nitrogen filled tires for a few months and the response has been overwhelming. "Customers started to read about it in trade magazines and car and driver magazines, so they were asking about it and we started checking into it and decided we might as well get on board and get it going."
Ed says he expects every driver will be using nitrogen filled tires within the next few years. The mechanics the News on 6 talked to say its about more than just savings. They say nitrogen in your tires can keep your family safer by reducing the chances of a blow out.
