Players with Oklahoma ties on All Star teams

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Two Oklahoma natives and another player with Oklahoma ties will try to help the National League win Major League's All-Star game for the first time in ten years tonight.

Meanwhile another former Oklahoman will be working to help the American League.

Broken Arrow native Brad Penny is the starting pitcher for the N-L after going 10-and-2 with a 2.91 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Stillwater native Matt Holliday was selected as a reserve for the NL after hitting .337 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI for the Colorado Rockies.

Former Oklahoma City University star Freddy Sanchez will play in his home park in Pittsburgh as a reserve for the NL. The Pirates' third baseman leads the league with a .358 batting average.

On the AL side is former University of Oklahoma pitcher Mark Redman, who was chosen after going 6-and-4 with the Kansas City Royals.

The American League has won eight of the last nine games with the 2002 game ending in a tie.
