Oakhurst fire fighters say if the community doesn't rally around the department, they could lose it.
Berryhill's Fire Department wants to annex part of Oakhurst's district. The property is from about 51st street to Southwest Boulevard and 49th West Avenue to 81st West Avenue.
Berryhill Fire Chief Dan Sturman says his department has taken more than 40 calls in that area so far this year. The department is larger with four full time fire fighters and another 16 volunteers. And it just added a third fire engine.
Oakhurst says annexation could force its fire house to close its doors. Oakhurst Fire Chief Mike Blancett: "I want the people out there the residents to know that if they vote on the 25th of July yes or no it could be critical for the Oakhurst volunteer fire department."
Annexation would mean higher property taxes for Oakhurst residents. Voters decide the issue July 25th.
