The oldest known US Marine veteran, who just happens to be an Oklahoman, received a patriotic surprise Friday.
Lula "Maye" Ryan was honored Friday afternoon at the Baptist Village of Owasso's annual patriotic celebration. The Marine who presented Maye with flowers says it's important to honor all veterans on this upcoming Fourth-of-July holiday. US Marine Sergeant James Crimmins: "Everybody could come up and address a veteran or someone who is in the service right now and just tell them thank you, that would do worlds of good."
Maye was born in 1910 and at age 96 has many memories of her time serving as a US Marine in World War II. Maye was one of the few people who could type in those days, so she was a big asset typing up military orders.
