A fugitive is brought back to southeast Kansas. Damon "Chub" Anderson has been on the run for more than a decade and was finally captured in Montana last week.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson explains how authorities finally caught up with him.

Chub Anderson has eluded police for 16 years. Sheriff’s deputies in Montana arrested the 65-year-old fugitive when he tried to sign up for Social Security benefits.

Deputies say Anderson gave them a dead man's name. When the name didn't check out, the deputies ran his fingerprints through a database, and found Chub Anderson was on Kansas' Most Wanted List.

He was brought back to Kansas by the Chautauqua County Sheriff Frank Green.

Anderson faces charges for a major marijuana growing operation just outside of Sedan, Kansas. Nowata County, Oklahoma also has a warrant out for his arrest. He's also wanted in Washington and Osage counties.

Along with his drug charges, authorities want to question Anderson in an unsolved murder from 1970. Wealthy Osage County rancher EC Mullendore was gunned down in the middle of the night. The only witness was Mullendore's bodyguard - Chub Anderson.

Authorities hope Anderson will finally open up about what happened that night. Sheriff Frank Green says that's just one of many cases investigators want to talk to Anderson about.
