OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An educational survey says that Oklahoma American-Indian 4th and 8th-graders scored better in reading and math than other American-Indian students in several other states.
A report released Tuesday by the National Center for Education Statistics said Oklahoma's 4th grade group had a higher average score in reading than students in Alaska, Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Oklahoma's American-Indian 8th grade group had the highest average reading score in the nation.
In math, Oklahoma's American Indian 4th-graders had a higher percentage of students performing at or above the Basic standard than other American-Indians students across the nation.
