HOMINY, Okla. (AP) -- A Hominy teenager dies Sunday evening from injuries sustained in an accident on an Osage County highway.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident happened at about 7:30 PM Sunday on State Highway 99 about two miles south of Hominy. 18-year-old Brandon Anthony Scheurich of Hominy was a passenger in a truck driven by 30-year-old Michael Scott Ward of Hominy.
The OHP says Ward was driving at a high rate of speed when his truck ran off the road. Ward overcorrected and the truck flipped between 4 and 6 times before coming to rest on the driver's side.
He was ejected and pinned beneath the vehicle. Scheurich also was ejected and landed in a ditch about 9 feet from where the truck landed. Scheurich was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ward was taken by ambulance to a Tulsa hospital in serious condition while another passenger, 24-year-old Samuel William Cowan of Hominy, was taken by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
