OKLAHOMA CITY -- State House Republicans have scheduled a June 12th election to pick the next speaker-designate to replace Todd Hiett.
Hiett was the first Republican speaker in more than 80 years and is now running for lieutenant governor.
The House's GOP majority set the election date Wednesday during a closed meeting. Rules approved by the state House last year require that the speaker be chosen by June 15th.
Candidates for House speaker are required to file for the office by June 1st, just six days after the Legislature must adjourn on May 26th.
