Heavy rains early Thursday morning caused all kinds of problems across eastern sections of Broken Arrow.
Five inches of rain turned into several feet of water on the area streets. The rain started falling shortly after 1 AM Monday and by the time it was done, streets, fields and homes were flooded.
Broken Arrow emergency officials say a number of neighborhoods on the east side of their community were under water for a time Thursday morning. The American Red Cross says volunteers have determined that 44 homes were affected in some way by flooding.
The Broken Arrow Fire Department as well as the Tulsa Fire Department conducted a number of vehicle rescues after motorists became stranded in high water.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter Thursday evening for those displaced by Broken Arrow flooding. The 50-bed shelter is at the Arrow Heights Baptist Church at 101st and Elm.
