OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahomans would vote on a proposal to prohibit forced school consolidation under a resolution approved by the state Senate Thursday.
The resolution calls for a statewide vote in November on an amendment to the state Constitution to prevent the consolidation of school districts unless voters in the districts approve the plan.
Senator Jay Paul Gumm says the proposal would protect rural school districts from being forced to consolidate.
The resolution passed the state Senate on a 43-to-1 vote and now goes to the state House.
