The Oklahoma Blood Institute is asking for Oklahomans to give blood to help increase the state's diminishing blood supply.
OBI officials say the COVID-19 pandemic has been the greatest challenge the organization has ever faced as many blood drives were canceled around the country. They say the concern of being exposed to the virus at a donation site is the reason for the lack of donating. OBI says that hospitals are still preforming surgeries and critical treatments, and are still need healthy blood donors.
If you are wanting to donate blood, OBI asks that you call before hand to schedule an appointment to allow for recommended physical distancing. Appointments can be made by calling 877-340-8777.
The Oklahoma Blood Institute will be at the Tandy Family YMCA until 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. off of South Darlington and 51st St. U.S. Representative Kevin Hern and his wife Tammy will donate blood at the Tandy YMCA on Saturday.
