McAlester City leaders are set to vote on a mask mandate Thursday evening.
McAlester's special council meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. July 23 where councilors will decide if they want to make face coverings mandatory in the city.
It's an issue the council has discussed over recent weeks and some councilors have said masks should be a request, not a requirement
The agenda for this evening shows the council will consider a fine between $10 to $100 for those who don't follow the ordinance if passed,
The mayor told the McAlester News-Capital he's against that idea and said he will ask for it to be removed from the ordinance if passed. That means it's possible the council could pass a mask mandate, but without issuing any kind of fine policy for violators.
