The man at the center of the landmark Supreme Court ruling on McGirt v. Oklahoma is no longer in state custody.
Attorney General Mike Hunter’s office said Jimcy McGirt is now in the care of federal law enforcement.
McGirt's conviction in Wagoner County was thrown out after the Supreme Court ruled much of Eastern Oklahoma remains a Native American reservation.
The ruling said that crimes involving tribal citizens that happen on tribal land must be tried in federal or tribal courts, rather than by the state.
