The state of Oklahoma will build a new $60 million lab in Stillwater to help fight future pandemics.

Governor Kevin Stitt said the lab will be the first of its kind in the nation. It will combine agriculture, medicine, food safety, public health testing, as well as animal health and safety.

“This center will have not only testing capabilities but the ability to have mobile units that can be deployed that will allow us to actually store specimens, as well as bring new testing capability to the state,” Secretary of Science and Innovation Elizabeth Pollard said.

The lab combines state, college and private resources and is funded through federal CARES Act money.
