When they got on scene, police said they encountered Barnes who had just come out of the woods holding a tire iron and went into a trailer.
Police said an officer followed him and, at first, tried to tase him, but it didn't work.
Investigators said Barnes then raised the tire iron at the officer and threatened to kill him.
That officer then fired one shot, killing him.
The Medical Examiner's report said Barnes died from that single gunshot wound.
The report also revealed that Barnes also had meth in his system when police encountered him.
Over the summer, Barnes' family told News On 6 they were heartbroken over his death and just wanted answers.
The OSBI was called in to investigate.
This was the first officer involved shooting in Jay in 17 years.
