The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said two people died in a three-car accident on Saturday morning.

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. near U.S. Route 169 and State Highway 10 in Nowata County.

According to OHP, one vehicle was attempting to turn southbound on U.S. Route 169 from State Highway 10 while a second vehicle was already traveling southbound on U.S. Route 169.

The first vehicle pulled out in front of the second vehicle, which struck the back of the first vehicle. The accident pushed the first vehicle into the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 169. A third vehicle, also traveling northbound on U.S. Route 169, then struck the first vehicle head-on, causing it to overturn 1/2 time, OHP said.

The two people in the third vehicle, identified as 64-year-old Larry Schick and 60-year-old Kimberly Schick of Oklahoma City, died from their injuries. Kimberly Schick was pronounced dead at the scene by Nowata EMS. Larry Schick was extricated by the Lenapah Fire Department before he was transported to a hospital in Coffeyville, Kansas. He died at the hospital around 9:30 a.m.

OHP is investigating the cause of the collision.
