"It is just the start of a beautiful year," said Lori Hutson with the Tulsa Botanic Garden, "We are excited, everybody wants to get outside."
The Tulsa Botanic Garden is alive with color. The trees are budding; the petals of tulips are folding open in the sun, more than 80 thousand bulbs were planted in the past year.
"It is that rebirth, it is kind of reassuring, especially with the year that we have had....last year March 17th....we announced we were closing along with a lot of other Tulsa attractions....last year we were only able to share our tulip display with people virtually...we have already heard from folks who are like, 'We are so excited to see them in person this year," said Lori.
Events are starting up as well. There is a full moon hike this weekend, the garden will start staying open late on Thursdays so families can watch the sunset, listen to live music and grab something to eat from local food trucks.
"It is also that reassurance that things go on- like this last year, was full of scary times for a lot of us but everything out here kept doing like it does," said Lori.
This year there is a way to safely enjoy the tulips, enjoy the spring, enjoy the outdoors in person, instead of from behind a screen. We have come a long way.
"It just kind of brings us together," said Lori, "It just keeps getting better every day!"
