Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled much of northeastern Oklahoma is still tribal territory.
This means that in crimes where either a suspect or victim is Native American those cases must be tried in federal or tribal court, rather than state court.
In Rogers County alone, this affects hundreds of cases that will be dismissed.
District Attorney Matt Ballard, who oversees Rogers, Craig, and Mayes counties, talked with News On 6 about the impact.
