McAlester Man Remembers Mother Killed In House Fire

Dalton Bell woke up early Tuesday morning to pounding on his front door.

"And I open the door and it was my father and he told me that, I mean he just told me that my mom was gone," Bell said.

At first, he didn't believe it but he could tell by the look on his father's eyes that his mother - Misty Rowell - had passed away.

"I had to call her mother, I had to call my grandma, I had to confirm it. She told me it was true. It still seems unreal," he said.

Bell says his mom was outgoing and always had a smile on her face. She was especially happy to be a new grandmother to his daughter, eight-month-old Liberty.

"She loved her grandbaby for sure, she was proud to be a grandma," he said. "I'm about to have another little girl, she's going to be named after my mom."

Bell says he's trying to stay strong - he says that's what his mom would've wanted.

"You know that's my mom, and we only get one mom and I will never be able to see my mom again. And it hurts, it hurts really bad, but like I said I just will have to keep going forward and I have to just push through it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute," Bell said.

Bell says the fire took photo albums and other irreplaceable sentimental items like a rose his brother gave to their mother during a basketball game.

But even without them, the love between a son and his mother will never fade.

"I love you mom, and you will forever be remembered. I love you mom," Bell said.

Bell says his mother's boyfriend also died in the fire.
