LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man suffered critical burn injuries when an explosion shattered a Los Angeles home with seven occupants and leveled its garage, authorities said.
Firefighters could smell gas in the air when they responded to the blast around 11 p.m. Sunday in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood, according to Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
A 59-year-old man suffered burns and a 46-year-old man was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another man had minor injuries and declined to be taken to a hospital while a woman and three children were all uninjured. A woman from a neighboring home was evaluated for injuries and declined to go to a hospital.
The blast showered the neighborhood with debris but there was no fire.
Fire Department resources were being released from the scene early Monday as the operation transitioned to an investigation of the cause.
