A Tulsa man is walking more than 20 miles to deliver a backpack full of letters. They were written by Collinsville students who wanted to do something good for kids who are sick or in foster care.
You would think a major celebrity was at Collinsville Public Schools Monday if you heard the cheers and screams coming from the kids. All the commotion is for Mike Goodin.
Goodin is carrying a 41-pound bag full of letters – written by students - all the way from Collinsville to the Ronald McDonald House in Tulsa.
Goodin started a project called Hope on Foot with a mission to bring letters of encouragement to kids in tough situations across the state.
"Kids find themselves in situations that they don't deserve to be in and if we can give them a little bit of hope, a little bit of encouragement," said Goodin.
He reached out to the kids at Collinsville Public Schools who agreed to write letters to children staying at the Ronald McDonald House and who are in foster care across the state.
"I don't have any crazy cool skills or talents or anything, but the Army taught me how to pick stuff up and carry it long distances," said Goodin.
Collinsville students wrote thousands of letters.
Goodin’s fourth baby was born Sunday, but he made a commitment to do this Monday. So, he is walking more than 20 miles, in the rain, and these kids were thrilled to be a part of it all.
Goodin is going to be reading some of the kid's letters live on his Facebook Page. You can follow along here.
