With the heatwave, dogs at an animal shelter are sweltering and need help staying cool.
The Oklahoma Pet Collective Society said with how hot its' getting, they won't be able to safely house rescue dogs if they're not able to get adequate cooling.
"With the temperatures rising, we would love to get an air conditioner unit in here yesterday,” Gable said.
For volunteer, Colleen Gable at the Oklahoma Pet Collective Society near Admiral and 129th East Avenue, it is just too hot inside.
“We got dog pools outside, and fans running. We have them specifically placed where they are all blowing on our dogs,” Gable said.
But according to Gable, their portable AC units and fans aren't enough to keep their kennel area cool for their rescue dogs. She said they're trying to raise enough money to install a drop ceiling with industrial air conditioning. It would cost the non-profit around 20,000 dollars, but Gable said they don't have the money.
"We've had 14 cases of Parvo and we have unfortunately lost some dogs to that; we have had five major surgery's that we have had to pay for, and it's financially just drained us,” Gable said.
Shelly Boothe spends several days of the week volunteering here. She said the heat can be difficult even for her.
“I go home, drenched in sweat, ready to lay down, it's too hot,” Boothe said.
