Tulsa Transit unveiled four new electric buses on Tuesday. Randy Cloud is the Director of Maintenance for Tulsa Transit and said the biggest change people will notice is how quiet the buses are compared to the 65 diesel and natural gas buses they have. He said they expect to get 12 years of life out of each of the new electric buses.
Cloud said the new buses can run 200 miles on a fully charged battery and will be recharged overnight. He said they are also going to be better for the environment.
“These are technological wonders, you know they’ll not only save us - we don’t have to buy diesel fuel to put in them. There is no oil to change, there’s just a myriad of components that we have to work on a diesel or natural gas-powered bus that we won’t have to touch on these," said Cloud.
Cloud said the new buses should be out on Tulsa's roads by the end of the month. He said they'll switch off which routes the new buses are on so everyone will get a chance to experience them.
