A six-year-old Wagoner County girl is giving us all a lesson on what it means to help others.

Hadley Mae Roberson has spent the past several days donating backpacks full of school supplies to school districts in her community.

“Thank you. I really appreciate it. The kids are gonna be really happy,” Porter Elementary School Principal Chris Sherwood told the first grader as she hauled in the backpacks.

Hadley Mae raised the money to buy all the school supplies and backpacks through a lemonade stand that she set up outside the Cross H Tack and Trailer store in Wagoner. Her goal was to raise $500 to buy school supplies for 20 children. She said she came up with an idea while praying.

“God told me for a couple of days, he just kept telling me,” said Hadley Mae. He said, ‘Hadley, raise other people school supplies from lemonade.’”

It's the same story she told her mom and dad.

“She said, 'Mom, I just prayed and God kept telling me I needed to have a lemonade stand. He told me I needed to buy school supplies,'” her mom Ashley said. “Cody and I just looked at each other and I was bawling, there was really no other emotion at that time.”

A few days later, it was time to "Squeeze The Day" (the name of her stand) and sell some lemonade. Hadley surpassed all her goals by raising $900, enough to go on a school supply shopping spree at Target.

“The baskets were like overflowing,” said Hadley Mae.

She bought enough for 60 kids in her in Wagoner and Cherokee Counties.

“Anytime you have something like this, it takes a burden off of so many families,” said Sherwood. “I think it's a great thing... and then to have a kid doing it is just so incredible to see our youth do these things to take care of each other.”

The first-grader delivered backpacks to five different school districts: Porter, Wagoner, Okay, Norwood and Hulbert.

“This six-year-old is amazing. And for her to listen and for her to really respond to what God is telling her and to look to Him for guidance. I am so blessed and proud of her,” her mom said.

And Hadley Mae is proud of those in her community, who helped make it all possible.

“I just have to say, ‘thank you for coming,'” said Hadley Mae.

The six-year-old is already planning her next good deed, possibly a hot chocolate stand to buy Christmas gifts for children in her community.
