TPS Board To Discuss Possible Lawsuits Over Mask Mandates

The Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting Wednesday evening to discuss possible lawsuits that could be filed because TPS cannot legally require masks in school. 

At the end of the meeting, the board is scheduled to vote on whether TPS attorneys should take any action, which could include filing a lawsuit against the state.  

The TPS meeting agenda says the board will go into executive session for confidential talks with the district's attorneys. They are set to talk about two things. 

The agenda says the first is any possible lawsuits filed against TPS for not implementing a mask mandate. 

Then, the board and lawyers will talk about possibly suing the state of Oklahoma, and Governor Kevin Stitt, because of a state law that makes it illegal for school districts to implement mask mandates.  

On Tuesday, State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said she wants local school districts to have control - saying she prays, "we do not come to some kind of collision of politics and science." 

Wednesday’s meeting starts at 5 p.m. and no public comments will be allowed.
