Tulsa Public Schools is holding a career fair Thursday for several full and part-time positions within the district. This hiring event comes at the same time there are schools in the district that have had to close due to not having enough staffing in their classrooms.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wilson Teaching and Learning Center. There are teacher, teachers assistant, before and after school care, custodial, nutrition and transportation positions all available for immediate hire. A few of the positions are offering a $500 hiring bonus after two months of employment.

During the first few weeks of the semester, TPS says multiple schools have canceled classes for the day or chosen to switch to virtual learning as too many teachers and staff called in sick. TPS told News On 6 that they hope this fair will bring in more people to combat the short staffing issue.

Some of the positions do require a college or high school degree and all candidates must agree to a background check.

TPS says wearing a mask at all times is required at this event as they follow safety protocols.

More information on the requirements for each job can be found below:

Teaching, teacher assistant, and paraprofessional positions
Positions are available at sites throughout the district. Teacher applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree; applicants for teacher assistant and paraprofessional positions must hold a minimum of a high school diploma. Recent college graduates and mid-career professionals are encouraged to attend and learn about pathways to educator certification.
Child nutrition, custodial, maintenance, and transportation positions
Full- and part-time positions with flexible hours are available district-wide. Applicants must hold a minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent, and some roles may require a college degree. The district is offering a $500 recruitment bonus for hired people -- paid out after two months of employment.
Before- and After- Learning Care program positions
Full- and part-time positions are available; site coordinators can earn a minimum of $18 per hour and group leaders can earn a minimum of $12 per hour. Group leader applicants must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED. Site coordinators must be 21 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and meet additional requirements as needed.

All potential employees are required to pass fingerprint and background checks as well as drug screening before starting work with Tulsa Public Schools.

Career fair attendees are expected to follow Tulsa Public Schools safety protocols by wearing a mask at all times during the event. The district will have additional COVID-19 safety measures in place.
