Volunteers worked together to complete projects for Meals on Wheels clients all over Tulsa on Monday.
This is the second day of a two-day volunteer opportunity with Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa. Volunteers from Prosperity Bank, TD Williamson, and Tulsa Community College have been working together to show up for seniors in need in the area.
The group from TD Williamson built a wheelchair-accessible ramp for a Meals on Wheels client.
"She uses a wheelchair and she had about a 4-inch step at her front door and then had a very steep ramp with no railings," said Jonathan Vanbeber with Meals on Wheels Metro Tulsa. "In addition to meals, we are providing wellness checks and trying to increase the independence of our clients in their own home."
This project started early this morning and by the end of the day the woman living here gained her independence back- now, she can safely go in and out of her own home.
"There is a very gradual slope on this ramp, so it is safe for not only someone else to help her go up and down but also for her to be able to do that on her own," said Vanbeber.
