Watch: Baby Animals Born At The Tulsa State Fair

Baby animals are always a huge hit at the Tulsa State Fair.

Each year, many of them are born at the Birthing Center. The mama animals are bred specifically to have their babies at the fair. At the Tulsa State Fair Birthing Center, you’ll find it's like a nursery for animals. Babies are sleeping, feeding, being nurtured by their mamas, and crying.

"We just love the fair. We love obviously the birthing center. We always want to come to see the baby animals,” said Shannon Carlin, who visited with her daughter.

She says she comes every year and the birthing center is a regular stop. Carlin says the goats are her favorite.

"We actually got to see two little goats get born a year before last. So we always hope to see it again,” Carlin said.

Dr. Yalonda Burton is working as one of the on-call veterinarians. She says the sheep and goats are pregnant for about five months, and the pigs are pregnant a little less time, around three and a half months. They’re able to time it out so that way, the animals are ready to give birth during the 11 days of the Tulsa State Fair, and anyone can watch.

"Even if you don't get to see a live birth, you can come through and see the moms with their babies. The way they take care of them and the natural instinct they have to guard over them, to feed them,” said Dr. Burton.

There are also baby chicks that are ready to hatch.

So far, Burton says all six sheep, four of the six goats, and one pig have given birth. She says goats typically have twins and pigs typically have 10 to 15 babies.

"It's a huge excitement at the Tulsa State Fair and something that's pretty awesome for people to get to see that would never get to see that any other way,” Burton said.

The Birthing Center is open every day during fair hours at Central Park Hall.
