A Tulsa woman who got a deferred sentence just a few years ago for stealing a pastor's truck, is back in jail, accused of stealing another vehicle.
Brianna Biggers just finished her previous sentence in February and is accused of a similar crime nine months later.
"It happens very often. Repeat offenders really plague our system and bog down our system and it's a public safety risk," said Kevin Keller, Tulsa County Asst. District Attorney.
Police said Biggers saw a car sitting outside a convenience store that was running and decided to take it.
Police said the man who owns the car left it running while he ran inside for only a few minutes and when he came out, it was gone. He'd left his iPhones in the car and used his friend's Find My app to track them.
Police found his vehicle at the Red Robin on Riverside Drive with Biggers sitting in it, wearing the victim's hoodie. They said she also admitted stealing a woman's phone from a nearby Walmart at 81st and Lewis.
"A deferred sentence is supposed to be set up for people, first-time offenders who are given an incentive to basically straighten up and comply with conditions of probation. Not commit any new crimes," said Keller.
News On 6 shared body cam video two years ago after Biggers was arrested in June of 2019 for stealing a pastor's truck, who was trying to help her on a Sunday morning.
She led officers on a chase before she crashed in someone's front yard. Police took her to the hospital, but they said she tried to escape. She pleaded guilty in 2019 to a felony and two misdemeanors and got a deferred sentence instead of prison time.
"The fact that you were given grace, you were allowed to have your prior case expunged and you picked up new allegations. We do take that very seriously," said Keller.
Biggers was booked into jail for larceny of a motor vehicle and having stolen property.
