People in Coweta are coming together to help after an EF1 tornado hit Mission Intermediate School causing a lot of damage.
“Devastation. Heartbreak. Kids have already had trouble the last year. You know with school and now we’re back in-person learning and the devastation hits of a tornado and our kids need normal. It saddens my heart to see that classroom was just torn up," said Candy Ginn.
Ginn is raising money at Cactus Cones to help Coweta Public Schools recover after Sunday's storms damaged Mission Intermediate School. She is the owner of the business and said this latest round of severe weather is bringing the community together.
“Everybody is trying to niche together and trying to provide anything that we can just to help the schools out," said Miranda Lee.
Miranda and Kyle Lee are the owners of Coweta Nutrition and they are also raising money for the school district. Helping Mission students and teachers is personal for Kyle.
“I used to go to school there and I’m just kind of grateful that it wasn’t during when class was in session because that could have very well been during an open time. Very crazy and saddening to see," said Lee.
100% of the tip money and a portion of the proceeds from both businesses will be donated to the school district. Ginn said they've already been able to raise $100.
“This is a way that we’re you know coming together as a community even out of towners can you know help out. Just a little bit helps you know a dollar, five dollars, it’s all going to add up to help do something for the school, the teachers, the kids," said Ginn.
