Wednesday, thousands of freshmen in Broken Arrow got a hands-on experience during Manufacturing Career Day.
It's a chance for students to learn more about the jobs available in manufacturing in Green Country.
Broken Arrow and Union freshmen students built products out of candy to present to their class. Each team had a designer, an engineer, a sales team, and a producer. The idea is to learn about the manufacturing industry.
Amber Miller with the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corportation said this is the third year for Manufacturing Career Day in Broken Arrow and this year they've added Union students as well. She said this is about growing the manufacturing industry and hopefully employing these students in the future.
"I think that there's a common misconception about what manufacturing is, and you know a lot of people think that manufacturing is dirty, grimy work or a dead end job," Miller said. "I think that a lot of people don't realize the sheer number of manufactures we have here in Broken Arrow."
Miller said the reason they target the freshmen students instead of the seniors is because students decide their schedule choices during their sophomore year.
