TULSA, Oklahoma -

Phase One of the Turkey Mountain Master Plan has begun!

River Parks Authority says the focus of the project is to "keep turkey wild" while also helping to restore damage caused by erosion and over-use. The plan includes fixing drainage issues to prevent water from building up on the trails, protecting the landscape by reinstituting controlled burns, stabilizing eroding riverbanks, and providing more parking and access for families. Phase 1 is expected to take 9-12 months.

The trails will open as they are completed. In honor of the groundbreaking River Parks is hosting a trail cleanup on Saturday, November 6th from 9-1, involving the community in taking care of the Turkey Mountain Wilderness, once again.

Trail construction begins on November 15th. Details to the Master Plan can be found HERE
