More than 30 organizations that serve children in Tulsa are getting more funding.

The Opportunity Project's Expanded Learning Initiative has approved more than $1 million for summer camps and after-school programs.

The Opportunity Project says there is a serious need to help children who have been struggling with school during the pandemic.

The Expanded Learning Initiative is an effort to keep kids within Tulsa Public Schools learning beyond regular school hours.

Learning opportunities like summer camps and after-school programs are part of what the project will be investing in.

Leaders say this will not only allow students to get back on track with academics, but also improve their social and emotional well-being.

The Opportunity project says the programs will give students the chance to better manage the stress and trauma of living through the pandemic.

The money will go to 27 school sites within the district for this current school year.
