USPS Holds Hiring Event At Bixby Post Office

Like many businesses right now, the United States Postal Services has several openings and needs to hire people.

The Bixby postmaster said the city is growing so quickly they are hoping to hire more people to help with the increasing number of customers. 

“I’m sure some of the routes are overburdened and things like that so I decided to come down and throw my name into the hat," said Todd Cole.

Cole got a flyer in the mail saying the post office is hiring, specifically in his hometown of Bixby. 

“It’s always nice to not have to run to downtown or to another 30 or 40-minute commute when you can just work in your own community," said Cole.

Bixby has been growing so fast that postal workers are scrambling to keep up and they are hoping Tuesday's job fair applicants can fill 15 immediate openings and they'll stay long term. 

“I have been at the postal service, I came in actually temporary 29 years ago this month. So I’ve been at the post office for 29 years and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s an excellent job," said Yulonda Singleton.

Singleton is Bixby's postmaster and said they serve 13,000 customers each day and that number continues to grow. She's hoping the $19.06 an hour plus benefits will attract more people to the job. 

“You get to communicate and interact with great customers every day. You get to meet the most awesome people every day working through the postal service and then we’re meeting a need for them. They’ve got things that are being mailed to them. Christmas gifts, different things are coming to them. So we’re meeting that need. We’re helping to deliver that what they’re looking for," said Singleton.
