News On 6 had an exclusive tour of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Tulsa during the busiest time of year for the company.

The 640,000-square-foot facility opened near 36th Street North and Garnett in August 2020.

The company told News On 6 currently more than 3,500 full-time, part-time and seasonal associates ship 800,000 products a week.

"It's a little like Santa's workshop, as we gear up for the holidays and really focus on delivering for our customers," said Daniel Martin, a regional public relations manager for Amazon.

Martin said the company has been getting ready for the holiday season by investing more in infrastructure and capacity and adding planes in the skies and vehicles on the road

From Osage Sky News 6, News On 6 could see the four-story building surrounded by dozens of semi-trucks that are constantly dropping off inventory and loading orders.

"Being able to fulfill so many customer orders, I truly understand Amazon's leadership principle of customer obsession because it's such a big part of our culture here,” said General Manager Scott Hikes.

Hikes explained how orders are fulfilled.

First, associates put the ordered items into bins. The bins, then, head to another associate to be packaged. Next, the packages are labeled, then, loaded to be dropped off with the 500 Amazon employees at its sortation and delivery centers in Tulsa and finally, the customers’ doors.

Amazon said robotics and automatic vehicles help the company work fast.

This facility also uses 14 miles of conveyance, which is twice the length of rollercoasters at Disney World.

Hikes said technology is key, and Amazon's strength is its associates.

"We make sure that we get to know them, ensure they're happy and they have an absolutely positive experience when they're here in the building," said Hikes.

Oklahoma City also has fulfillment, sortation, and delivery centers.

Amazon said it is always looking for new team members.
