Tulsa police officers are doing their annual “Random Acts of Kindness" this week. Officers have been giving out presents, food, and gift cards.
Officers say there's much more to their job than just enforcing the law.
They say getting to put smiles on the faces of people in need, especially during the holidays, Is what it's all about.
“A lot of people look at officers in a bad light in this day in age, but we just want to show people that we love them, we care about them, and we just want to support them,” said Officer Donnie Johnson with Tulsa Police.
The Tulsa Police Foundation organizes random acts of kindness every year. Businesses and people in the community donate money and gifts for officers to hand out.
"All of our people realize that our officers are here to protect and serve, but what we want them to know is that they are human, they love Christmas, they just love being a part of the community,” said Tiffany Egdorf with the Tulsa Police Foundation
Employees from Gateway Mortgage, a big supporter, went along with officers to help. The next stop was QuikTrip, where officers walked up to strangers at the gas pump to surprise them with gift cards to pay for their gas.
"Just to see a smile on someone's face and just giving the holiday cheer and supporting the community,” said Officer Johnson.
