The Sand Springs community is coming together Tuesday to lay wreaths for those who lost their lives to illness and crime in 2021. At noon, the wreaths will be placed in honor of those who have passed.
In partnership with Wreaths Across America, the members of American Legion Post 17, city leaders and first responders will be placing 108 memorial wreaths at Charles Page Triangle Park on Tuesday to honor crime victims, those who were lost due to illness and veterans. Some of the wreaths have already been placed in Woodland Memorial Cemetery on Saturday in an earlier ceremony put on by Wreaths Across America.
The ceremony is open to the public. It is recommended that you bring your own chair in case there is not enough provided seating for everyone.
Post Commander Rick George said they felt they needed to have a ceremony like this for the first time this year because those who have passed away deserve to have a few extra people thinking of them.
“It’s a touching moment, it proves how the group has gotten together and done this,” George said. “You can’t understand losing a member of your family there and we can show some respect at this time.”
Later in the evening, the wreaths will be moved and placed with the others at Woodland Memorial to be observed through the remainder of the year.
