EMSA is urging people to avoid one of the most common injuries they see when the weather turns icy, and it isn't car wrecks.

Most people get hurt during slips and falls close to home, even right outside on the driveway.

"Last year we had so many slips and falls just steps away from someone's front door, because they were wearing slippers, or some sort of shoes that didn't have a grip, and we had broken legs, broken arms, and broken necks," said Adam Paluka, EMSA.

Many of those falls were on ice covered hard surfaces like sidewalks.

You'll want to be extra careful on sidewalks and stairs.
