A family is begging for answers after a Tulsa father of three was shot and killed during a robbery. Police say Anthony Washington was killed while walking through the Waterside Apartment complex near 17th and Jackson last month. The killer is still on the run.
"I just want justice for my baby. That would give me so much peace,” said Washington’s girlfriend and mother of his kids, Deja Hopson.
Anthony's funeral was March 4. His girlfriend said she can't even grieve, move forward or look at their three young kids without crying, because she knows Washington’s killer is still free.
"I just want justice for him because this is not right. You have to be a cold hearted person to do that to him. My kids need that comfort, I need that comfort,” said Hopson.
Hopson said she feels like a part of her was ripped away and all she wants to know is who did it and why.
"That was my counselor. That was my backbone. My notebook you know. So with him being gone I really feel like I have nobody because he was everything,” said Hopson.
Tulsa Police say Washington and his best friend were walking through the parking lot of the apartment complex, when a man dressed in all black with a mask robbed them, then shot Anthony.
Detectives have had very little luck finding any leads.
Deja said Anthony had a true heart of gold. There was nothing he loved more than being a father.
“My kids loved him just so so so so so much,” said Hopson. "He loved being a father so much. For me to be the first person to give him his kids, it is an honor. It is such an honor. He loved my babies so much."
Deja said all Anthony wanted to do was work and support his family. He worked six days a week and spent his little off-time either working odd jobs, spending time with the kids or helping others.
"You could never tell Anthony that he couldn't help someone, or be somebody's friend, or he couldn't love this person. He would go against the grain against the whole world to love anybody and to be by their side,” said Hopson.
Deja is trying to focus on the good memories the best she can.
"I've just been kind of staying strong because it doesn't seem real. Even seeing his face, it doesn't seem real. I was supposed to live with this man for the rest of my life,” said Hopson.
Both Hopson and homicide detectives believe someone out there knows who killed Washington.
They ask anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS. You can leave an anonymous tip.
